I heard stuff like Martin Luther King, Mahatama Gandhi, the power of zero. As we used to say as kids, the Americans are trying to boost our Ego to get stuff done. We are not still happy with the increase in prices of visas for IT people. It is a bad move and the United States of America will be held responsible for their jobs by many Indians. It is the unsaid story of our guys. The President of India may or may not be moved too much by the increase in prices, but we for sure are.

Also, we will not let America dominate and do what it feels like again. We have fire in our hearts and blood to kill people who taste it!

Life is not fair, but who wants it to be!

Well as we all say, life is not fair. It shows us stuff at times that is plain out of the world. And at other times, things we know and what have been really scared of.

We must learn to accept the things we have been scared of and justify to ourselves if what we are doing feels right at a basic level, before doing it.

If it does feel right, then we are to be bold enough to support our decision, keeping in mind that we must learn and unlearn new things on the road to reaching our goal.

Dont let learning or unlearning sway you away from the goal, as that is what will drive home the happiness and joy you want actually.

What is the year 2012? Is it the year of revelation/end of days/renissance? What have the world leaders feared most? Why is this year part of all spiritual scriptures? Is it time for all to say kum-bie-yah and brace for the inevitable? Let's try and answer some of that.

Do you remember the end of world war II? What was the outcome?

What has America done to mantain its dominance? What were the challanges it faced?

America has been a nation that dominated the world war II by sheer force. Force comes at a highly expensive cost - technology, infrastructure, communication, advanced weaponry, defence trainings, assault missions, etc.

How has it funded these operations in the past?

The wealth America obtained was basically by pushing one country against the other - always. Taking someone's side, biasing the policies and decisions of the UNO, getting financial aid, using it to develop methods to be ahead of the race. America used to manufacture the highest number of millitary supplies to the rest of the world - just to keep them protected! This in turn generated huge funds which America could play with. The dominance America maintained over the nations showed right from the way the American president shook hands with the British Queen after the world war, to the way America charged over Iraq. Terrorism has been always led by american ideas at some point. People watced war moviews and read novels to understand the tactics people used to gain supremacy in the world war and the American ways of survival.

What was the move that America made wrongly?

America started depleting in resources and then saw that there was cheap labour available in the world. India and China provided a workforce that was much more economical compared to their own workforce. They resorted to means such as improving technology and trying to sell technology to the world, and trying really hard to be the superpower in that domain, and capture the markets again. They were able to withhold their technical stronghold but with rising deficit in the world markets.

It is this factor that pushed them to either decline their dominance or get more money somehow. The money markets transferred towards Europe because Russia was no longer a unified country. It was no more USSR but many Russian countries with seperate policies and seperate leaders with no unified government capable of taking over power. Meanwhile, the prices for the prishable natural resource - oil had gone up worldwide to above a staggering 130 dollars, ref. http://www.oilnergy.com/hpix/2opostm.gif, the highest in known man history. This propelled the president of the United States to attack the biggest natural oil resource known and take dominance of the oil resources on the pretext of removing terrorism from that land. It attacked Iraq by force in an act of sheer dominance and heartless killings being only greedy for the money due to the oil it will gain after. That led to unrest among the entire world thinking that if America could order a strike on Iraq, then any nation in the world could be next. People started moving against the Americans - Indians struck first blood in 2005 by starting a movement to actually take over the american dominance. What is the most possible outcome?

The best part in life is, it is important to do your to-do list, but its still just important. Living your life is necessary. Doing things on your to-do list will help you accomplish those dreams a little easier. Earning money to get to your potential pream is no more a stressful itenary on your list to spend time. Now you have a group of high networth professionals, ready to spend money to save their time. Time and food now are the highest rated items on everyone's buy list. I need more time to do more and more things everyday. It seems time is crunching the best of me in a very small enclosure. I will not let it do that. My time is precious not to those who care for and love me, but for those I am willing to compromise everything in my life for. I am not the alpha user or beta user of all products launched, I am a consumer, I am a developer of alpha and beta test products, and I am a software engineer. I am Anubhav Agarwal. But somethings in life always seem so perfect, it seems as though they were completely crafted according to what we require and ask for the most. Microsoft launches IE8 final code today

March 19, 2009 (Computerworld) Microsoft Corp. will release Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) at 9 a.m. PT today, beating its biggest rival, Mozilla Corp., in the race towards final code.

The new browser (see Computerworld's review) will be available for manual download from the company's Web site, the hour selected to coincide with a keynote address at MIX09, the Microsoft-sponsored Web developer conference where IE8 will be introduced, said James Pratt, a senior product manager on the IE development team.

"We'll be launching IE8 RTM [release to manufacturing] in 25 languages for Windows Vista, XP, Server 2003 and Server 2008," said Pratt.

Windows 7 users, the vast majority of them running the beta that debuted Jan. 10, will not see the final version of IE8 until Microsoft delivers the next public milestone of the operating system, Pratt said. He declined to promise that the final bits of the browser would make it into the Windows 7 release candidate, which Microsoft has strongly hinted will be offered to the general public. "But that would be ideal," he said.

People already using an earlier version of IE8 -- Microsoft issued two betas and one release candidate in the last 12 months -- will be offered the final code via Windows Update "over the next couple of weeks," said Pratt. "We want them to have the most up-to-date version."

At some still-unspecified later date, Microsoft will "switch on" IE8's automatic download and installation through Windows Update for people running the older IE6 or IE7 browsers. In January, the company posted a tool kit that corporate IT administrators can use to block IE8's installation when Microsoft pulls the Windows Update trigger.

Pratt was confident that Microsoft's servers would stand up to the expected load when users start hitting its site for IE8 today. In January, Microsoft had to postpone, then restart, the launch of Windows 7's public beta after the crush overwhelmed its servers. "An operating system and browser are different-sized packages," he noted. "We've had lots of experience releasing browsers, and I'm confident that it will be available to all users who want it."

As the company promised last November, Microsoft used what was for it a faster-paced development cycle near the end, sticking to its promise then to issue just a single "release candidate" build, which it did in late January 2009, before moving on to final.

But that doesn't mean Microsoft has its foot on the gas. "We are very deliberate in how we release a product," Pratt said, when asked whether Microsoft would pick up the pace to match the faster cycles of some of its rivals, such as Mozilla and Google Inc. "When we build a browser, we have to balance the needs of a number of customers," he added, including enterprises that are traditionally loath to change software.

Ironically, the slower Microsoft beat the nimbler Mozilla in the race to the next major upgrade. Mozilla has had to postpone Firefox 3.5, formerly called 3.1, several times over the last eight months and has yet to issue a release candidate.

Even so, Mozilla welcomed the IE8 launch. "We're happy to see that Microsoft is not standing still," said Mike Beltzner, the director of Firefox. "But we're not standing still either. Browser makers have to keep up [because] people expect more of the Web today."

IE8 will be available from Microsoft's main download center, and from the page specific to Internet Explorer 8.

I'm just too wrapped up in work mostly

Generally did I ever make an appointment with you, maybe travelling to bangalore, or meeting you in amsterdam, or maybe even in ny. I apologise. First of all thanks to the series of unprecedented events in my life, starting with the american banks, my company has put its salary slips in the defensive mode, hence I am stripped of the extra cash I could have accured and hence travelled(Sounds to me like a swell crib already :), but the list goes on..). Second, thanks to my lack of studies so far, I have not cleared any good college in or around bangalore (IIM being my preference there. I got a call from allianz, blr, but I din go for the gd. Too bad a situation to ride out for a job again next year or maybe even after that.) And last but not the least.. I'm on a quest that does not encompass anything to do with bangalore right now(And if you are smart enough you have caught very correctly what I was trying to inculcate).

For the abroad part. Simple and easy excuse. Getting a visa got tougher. I still want to travel and meet you people, but no time. As for my friends in the U.S. I'm sure you are not reading this. In case you are, I would recommend not thinking about me for a while. I might be travelling, but thats a nigh negligible possibility, considering recession and my profile in my company. Its just been 1.5 years fr christ sakes. As they say here it is hard to make a person travel before two years. Although I still conteplate on why and how my colleagues who joined with me have just returned from trips to Canada, the U.S. and Europe.

Oh and yeah.. for the friends who I drank alcohol wityh.. if you are reading this, please understand that i've been off the bottle for some time now and next time we meet, do not expect me to drink like I once used to :).

The dancing's still happening. Only a lot lesser though. Wonder what will happen after I get booked :).

EA Sports is developing a lot of good games nowadays. I am personally a fan of the football games they make. There is one game I recommend people to play to gain an experience of what life has in store for them. Its called Sims 2. Its a real life simulation of people and their daily lives. Right from going to a new place, getting settled, and then making friends, getting a job, falling in love, marriage, kids, their troubles, etc. Its a lil long but its worth it. At least it prepares you for life and what it holds in store for you. Just the other day I had this colleague who told me that I had no experience of raising a baby girl and what problems/issues are commonly observed. I can now proudly say. I can now proudly say I know what its like to raise a baby girl. Sounds like an advertisement. Well the sad part is that I am not getting paid to say this. But its true for certain. For all my friends who are struggling to understand - how to keep their marriages going. Play this game before you experiment in real life. I lost hope at the part I had to raise a child in the game.

Calculated Columns

This blog post is an addition to the knowledge served under the technology domain in my blog. Going specifically into MOSS 2007, which has been the source of my bread and butter (no wonder I've gained weight :)), there is a feature in this product called as MOSS 2007. All people associated with the technology know deep into how to deploy the site column through features, how to create a new site column, types of site columns. What I thought people would love to know is that there is a feature called as calculated site columns in MOSS 2007. The formulas mentioned below can be used in MS EXCEL as well in case you are not a MOSS buff :).

The real mantra here is that there are site columns that need the currently logged in user name or the current date at times. The way to do these is to use the [Me] and [Today] objects. There is a further flaw in this approach. Directly entering this value in the visual code editor for the column value will throw an error. For this first create a column as Me in the content type and use that in the formula. Delete Me after the calculated column has been created to achieve the desired result. The same applies to Today object as well. Happy developing from here on :).

How to deploy these calculated columns through features:

It is not very easy to find a sample of how to define a site column of type calculated using the SharePoint 2007 features framework. The documentations shows how to do it using the user interface (see Calculate data in lists or libraries ). The documentation in the WSS SDK about the Formula Element in the CAML Core Schemas points in the right direction but is maybe not clear enough. I tested the sample code below by using the site columns in a list definition. You might want to test it out in a content type as well - please provide feedback in the comments.

Caught in the wrong job?

Its really like one of those "Caught in the wrong job" kind of times nowdays. I'm doing development, design, architecture, and whole lot technical documents on MOSS 2007. Yesterday the client told me that he needed a development document for MOSS 2007. So I made one - 2 MB in size. Huge document containing all the best coding practices and stuff that I did not know before.

As usual -> luck is not really what I bank on and it turned out a correct investment gyan. I got raped by my manager, that this is a bible, not a best practices document. So the 180 pages document had to be reduced in size to a 30 page document, including TOC, references, etc. I mean 1/5 th the size of the original document. And then it was supposed to go to the client. I ended up mailing the first document altogether.

Bloody e-mail. Then I called back the first mail, sent an apology to the client (my performance score is expected to suck after this) and sent him the correct documentation.

Cat is one of the most competitive written examinations in India so far. It is the entrance Criteria for almost any Management college in India. It stands for Competitive Aptitude Test. The cat is divided into three gruesome sections. One is the Analytical section, then there is an English section and the third is a Data Interpretation section. Now these three sections are supposed to test the awareness of the person, the amount of speed math the person is able to do and the verbal ability of the person. There are about two lakh participants who sit in this examination every year and the competition gets more and more difficult each year.

I happen to be one of them and have no prep whatsoever. May the great lord get me above 80 percentile. Rest I leave to lady luck :).

One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.
That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver.
As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.
The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver." She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.
The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.
The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?"
He smiled at her and answered, "Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it"
If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has his eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

Answers To the Questions about Relegion

It is true that it is believed that God is supposed to be an Omnipotent, Omniscient and personal being. In our philosophy there is one major God (Ishwara). He is assumed to be the creator and controller of all. Basically he can summon whichever power he wishes to and perform any task. Also there are Gods of different powers individually. They are reffered to as deities in the western cultures.

The concept I was trying to inculcate is still unclear with the above explanation. I was trying to explain that our scriptures talk about henotheism. This is a concept meaning devotion to a single primary god while accepting the existence or possible existence of other deities.

So while there is one single God (Ishwara), there are a lot of deities with unique powers and they in turn are responsible for the various acts of nature. For example, agni(fire), vayu(air), et cetra. We all believe that God is within us all. A person can become a Devotee and then a deity. As the book says, Ishwara lies within us all. So there is no need to become Ishwara. You already have Ishwara within you. In our concept it is more like you may use Ishwara to either do good deeds or do bad deeds and they will be repayed to your sons and daughters in time. There is a concept of Hell (Narak) and Heaven (Bhagwaan's place) as well.

So as we said the concept of omniscience is there. As God is always with us, since he exists in us and everything around us. The trees, birds, air, everything. And he knows all that is happening in the world. All that is planned to happen and all that has previously happened. It is even said that there is a person designated on the gates of death who keeps record of all the activities a living thing has performed, so that his/her/its place in heaven or hell can be determined at the time of death.

Good adventure movie. Only thing is lot of it does not make sense. For example there is a lot of content in the movie that does not self justify how or why it is there. But at the same time it is a good break from reality, and gets the viewer a good laugh. So it can be seen as an example of a form of alien attack film. Not too much sense of what or why is happening but the picture as a whole makes good entertainment.

Hindu Religion

I am just trying here to explain whats good about my religion(Hinduism). So basically all religions are the product of a lot of reading through various epics. Its what written in the epics followed that decides what the people follow. So if the Epic says there was a God, people believe that there actually was a God, who did divine things. Let us assume for the time being that there actually exists a God (I have a joke to share in this context. Once there was a war between Russia and USA where Russia claimed that God does not exist and USA believed that God does exist. Both countries sent out their best people - scholars, scientists, explorers, et cetra to find about the truth. A month later Russi called a press conference and said that God does exist. The reason they cited was that their scholars came to India. And it is only by the grace of God that this country is running they cited. So therefore God must exist. I know I'm bad at jokes).

The feature that stands out in the religion is the concept of multiple Gods for different tasks. It is like a whole community of Gods up there in the sky, performing diffenet tasks. Which makes it simmilar to the board of directors concept in any company. So over here the company reffers to the world and each director performs a different task. For example, let us consider Indra. This God is the God of rain. There is Shiva, Rama, Hanuman (God of Monkeys - follower of Rama), Bhramha (God of thought), Lakshmi (Goddess of Prosperity), there is Saraswati - Goddess of Studies/Intelligence. Now it is more logical a framework for so many Gods to be managing people rathere than a unified God managing all activities of all people. Makes more sence to me this way.

All people are not the same. Some like prosperity, some like fame, some like truth. Next feature that stands out in this religion is that people have the free will and choice to choose what God of the relion they intend to follow. For example many people follow Hanuman. They keep fasts for this God. This is done so that their future mate is good, or for other strong good wishes for their families as well. There is Tirupathi in the south and his name is mentioned in the Kannada language scriptures. In our sanskrit text we have references to Ram, Hanuman, Lakshmi, Indra, Vayu, et cetra. So its a more versatile concept. People can choose what God they like most and worship them.

We have different festivals for different Gods, making life all the more exciting, as in we see more happy faces all the time. Not everyone waits for a unified date or season to worship their God the most. For example there is Shiv ratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, Maha Lakshmi Ashthami, then there is Diwali, Holi. All of these festivals are related to different Gods and there are lots of stories about each event. The whole history is not based on one God, but one God reaching out for help to the other God for help to solve a problem. One God blessing someone for something and the other Gods helping him.

People have the free will to switch from one God to another any time. There is no concept of switching your idols or favourite Gods making trouble in your life. So it is a very clean concept as such. The fundamental truth being that God exists within us all.

There is one good thing about our Religin for which I firmly stick to it in all faces of deserting it and that is it taught man that whatever you have is a loan you have from your children and not an inheritance from your forefathers. What you do is to be good for them. Only then will you repay your eternal loan. If every person on the Earth knew this concept then there would not be so much fighting, so much enimity, so much terror. It is painful to know what has already been taught by one religion is not accepted by other religions only because their texts do not speak about any such thing. It is painful to know that we humans are causing our own death due to ignorance and that too ignoring what we will face in our future definately.

Buddhism for instance talks about not hurting or hating others. Hinduism does not talk about this at all. What it says is that you must do what will create enough for your children that they can carry your loan to themselves and repay it off to their children. So this concept was made with the understanding that children does not reffer to your imeediate family. It reffers to an entire generation of people after you. Unfortunately people do not understand it this way because this is hard. It is the right path, but it is hard. So they mess up the entire cycle by believing what they can achieve and in process make lives terrible for other people sometimes. There would be no concept of beggars in todays streets if this concept was followed by the intention it meant.

I hope that clarifies a little as to what drives me to believe my religion is good. But at the same time my God is always changing from one to the other. Some days I worship Vishnu, some days it is Shiva, then there is Saraswati and Bhramha that I worship with all devotion. And with Diwali coming up, I guess Lakshmi also deserves praise this time of the year. So worshiping which God you feel like is a choice and free will, and it makes people be educated more often than not. People love to find out what is the hidden truth at all times even if they intend to find very little. That in process educates them. Since our texts and religious history is so vast, if a person starts following even a little and gets inquisitive, then he/she is bound to learn a lot and become more educated than he could get in school. I mean it is beyond the ABCD that we learn here. So many different languages, ideas and theories.

I wish there was more time. I'd be writing further to this topic. I have made a label called religion in my notes and this post and the further upcoming ones will be classified under it.

My final days at RVCE

It is with a heavy heart and no blood in my vins i have to start this blog. Heavy heart because i'll be leaving all my friends dear to me here, and going to gurgaon. The no blood thing, well because frankly RVCE drank all of it.
This is my first post of many, so i'll keep it short and simple.
Will miss all my friends a lot. Ad i hope i get some time everyday to write like this.

I'm posting nowadays on the frequency chat board. I feel i'm doing a good job there.. Helping people by whatever resources they need. And those which i can lawfully provide. It feels nice to interact with people from college. In this sad depressed life, their mails also seem so happy. They make me happy. Love all ppl who fight so hard. Hate the authorities, but love the teachers and all my collegues and the seniorss and all the juniors.
